What is the BCSPL?

The BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) is a new youth soccer league with play beginning in September 2011.  The league was created by BC Soccer with the intent of being the highest level of youth league play in BC.  The concentration of talent in the BCSPL is intended to provide a better high-end development environment for the provinces best players.

What is South Fraser FC?

South Fraser is a registered non-profit society based in South Surrey / White Rock.  Formed by Peace Arch Soccer Club and Semiahmoo Soccer Club, South Fraser is a founder franchise of the BCSPL.

Since receiving a BCSPL franchise, South Fraser has engaged with other regional clubs including Tsawwassen Soccer Club, North Delta Youth Soccer Association, SurDel Girls Soccer Club, Ladner Boys Soccer Club and Ladner Girls Soccer Club.

What are the age groups?

The BCSPL is for boys and girls, ages U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, and U18.  In some cases, the U17 and U18 ages may be combined.

How is BCSPL different from Metro-Selects?

There are a number of significant differences between BCSPL and Metro-Selects, including:

  • BCSPL is limited to 8 franchises across BC, resulting in a greater concentration of talented players.
  • The regular playing season for BCSPL is from March - November.  There is a mini-season that runs from September 2011 - November 2011.
  • Coaching standards for the BCSPL are intended to provide a higher and more consistent level of coaching and player development than at the Metro-Selects level.
  • Integration of the playing schedule with the BC Provincial Teams Program will facilitate year-round training and development with fewer conflicts with regular team play.

Does South Fraser operate teams in the Metro-Selects League?

No.  South Fraser FC only operates and competes in the BCSPL.  Our partner clubs (Peace Arch Soccer Club and Semiahmoo Soccer Club) and regional supporting clubs will operate teams in the Metro-Selects League.  South Fraser coaches will communicate with the coaches of the metro-Select teams in our region to help identify upcoming players.

What is the playing season for BCSPL?

  • a 'mini' season will run from September - November 2011.
  • full seasons will run from March - November, starting in March 2012

What are the fees?

  • March - November 2012:
    $1300.  Players who did not play in the mini-season will pay a $375 kit fee.  Returning players can use their same kit.

Where are the games and training sessions?

  • South Fraser FC home games will be on either grass or synthetic fields at South Surrey Athletic Park (map).  Our home games will be on Saturdays or Sundays.
    Away games will be on either Saturdays or Sundays, at various locations in the Lower Mainland, Victoria, or the Okanogan.
  • Training will be at South Surrey Athletic Park.

When are training sessions?

Teams will train 3 times per week.  Training schedules are not yet finalized, but we anticipate the following schedule:

  • Boys: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
  • Girls: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

Who is providing technical oversight to the program?

Primary technical suppor and oversight will be provided by Mark McQueen (girls) and Greg Berry (boys).

A technical committee comprised of the Technical Directors or Head Coaches of Regional Partner and/or Participating Clubs will play an advisory role.

What is South Fraser FC's development philosophy?

The purpose of the BC Soccer Premier League is to enhance player development.

South Fraser SC is committed to providing a high performance training environment for our players. Our player development priority is “PLAYER FIRST” and will focus on the Canadian Soccer Association’s development pathways for each age group.  We expect to enhance not only individual soccer skills, but also tactical understanding, nutrition awareness and education on injury prevention.

South Fraser SC is run by a Board of Directors, with 3 directors appointed by each of Peace Arch and Semiahmoo.
